Testimonial from KIAK’s Parent : Parents of Rebecca, Isabelle and Natalie Koh
In 2015, Coach Nanfeng started coaching our three children (aged 12, 10, 8) in the Kids-in-A-Kayak
(KIAK) program. The children took to her immediately. She was able to engage them through her mix
of patience, humour and firm discipline when required. Within a short time frame of two months,
she was able to impart basic kayaking skills and help the children overcome their fear of capsizing to
take part in the Singapore Canoe Federation Marathon 2016. We were pleasantly surprised to see
how competent the children had become in such a short time period.
Our children have continued to be coached by Nanfeng for the past one and a half years. They enjoy
every weekly lesson with her despite the physical demands of kayaking. Besides building a strong
foundation of kayaking techniques, she also takes time to impart good values to the children. She
reminds them of the importance of perseverance, good sportsmanship, respect for others,
responsibility for equipment, and helps them build team spirit by getting them to work together
with other children.
Nanfeng has high expectations of her students. However, she equips them well by teaching them the
relevant skill sets to excel. She is encouraging and always patient with the children. We have seen
her work her magic with many different types of students and are often impressed by how they all
respect and love her despite her tough demands.
Her passion and enthusiasm for the sport and her students is inspiring and contagious. We have no
doubt that Nanfeng played a large role in our children’s love for kayaking. As parents, we are
extremely grateful for what Nanfeng has done for our children. We will definitely recommend her as
a kayaking coach to anyone.
